As in everything else that Helmut Landsberg undertook in his long and fruitful career, his service to the Society was dedicated, sustained and distinguished. His extraordinarily outstanding professional contributions have been acknowledged by the American Meteorological Society with honor on several occasions: for Outstanding Achievement in Bioclimatology in 1964; elected Fellow in 1968; the Charles Franklin Brooks Award for Outstanding Services to the Society in 1972; and the Cleveland Abbe Award for Distinguished Service to Atmospheric Sciences by an Individual in 1983.
