It is always prudent to ensure that in all cases, whether criminal or civil, the relevant laws related to search and seizure are followed as what is initially thought to be a civil case may, as evidence is recovered, become a criminal matter.

In order to reduce the potential for this happening, the industry has adopted good practices, processes, and procedures. In addition to this, there have been numerous standards introduced for forensic laboratories, including accreditation, as well as a range of certifications for individual Forensic Analysts.
