If I as a health professional want to help the person, I cannot ignore this richness, without seriously failing in carrying out my responsibility. Who am I, as a health professional, to ignore what people experience in their everyday lives in their moments of happiness and in their moments of difficulties? Who am I, as a health professional, to reduce this richness of this person and his life experience under one label of 'schizophrenic' or 'neurotic', or any other label? Am I really helping if I do that?

Are we really giving quality care if we are propagating the proliferation of new categories of personnel who are ignorant and illiterate? Are we helping people to improve? Have we evaluated the work we are doing? Is teaching a community health worker a few signs and symptoms, or a few skills really an answer? Does it raise the health of people to a higher level? The health worker who first comes in contact with patients, and who is going to perceive the health needs of people, is the one who would make a difference in the quality of care.
